This full moon takes place in the season of birth, all the small things start to grow, even though it's still pretty cold and grey. The small white and pink flowers are phlox, a plant I had just discovered at the time I painted this. Phlox is the 'pink' of the Pink Moon, being one of the first bright colours to touch the ground after the snow melts. The rose is aspirational; April showers, yada yada yada. The hand holding the rose belongs to my friend Ellen Box, an excellent craftsperson and all around gal. I took a photo of her sniffing roses on Fort St. in Victoria BC.
