Full Moon

It took me a long time to get back into painting after leaving art school in 2002. I started this series with the intention of creating a regular painting practice - what can I say, it worked. I was researching the significance of full moons, and learned that every full moon has a name and theme that goes along with it's respective season. The names evoked a lot of imagery for me to work with, and I tried to tie in a personal photo (ideally of the full moon, but not always) from the time period that the moon took place. I always include some kind of moon in the painting. It was a really fun project, I would ideally like to do it once a month forever, but I think I got too precious about it, and I moved onto new things. Some of the artists I tried to channel while making these include Shawn O'Keefe, the woodpile collective, Theresa Slater, Bubzee, Harley Smart, B.A. Lampman, and some guy named Salvador Dali. All major dudes.
